Where Do You Distribute?
One of the key factors in executing a successful flyer distribution campaign is the location of that distribution. Do you know what your ideal client looks like? Ideally you would know how much your typical client makes, their average home value, and what their family unit looks like. This is ideal however it is not absolutely necessary. If you have a general idea you can take that information and reference it with a database of information on different zip codes to find the zip code that would generate the highest return on investment from your flyer distribution campaign. Alternatively, after you run a distribution campaign you can record where you are are receiving the highest volume of calls from and moving forward you can distribute to those specific areas, as well as look alike areas.
What Should Your Flyer Look Like?
After experimenting with many different types of flyer distribution methods we have found the most effective to be door hangers. In certain industries other methods may well in fact be more effective (menus, brochures, etc.) our clients generally see the highest return on investment through our door hangers. When designing your door hanger you need to understand what your ideal client is looking for. Do they want a company that is professional and reliable? You should go with clear bold colors and keep it to the point. Is your ideal client looking for a company that is flexible and has fun with what they do? Brighter colors with fun lines and inviting shapes may be the path to go. Along with the color scheme another vital factor in flyer design is the call to action. There needs to be a clear action that the consumer would take and you need to let them know they need to make it now. These things along with the matching of the branding of your business all go into having an amazing flyer.
How Many Flyers?
After you have the location of where you want to distribute and the design of your flyer you just have one thing left to do; distribute your flyers! We have found that a good control to see what kind of responses you get to be anywhere from about 10,000-20,000 flyers. With this number you can see a few things.
Which areas are you seeing the most response from?
What percentage of calls are you getting from your flyers?
Is your call to action and design strong enough?
Knowing all of these things will greatly help you in the future planning of your flyer distribution campaigns. After you know where you are receiving the highest rate of response from your previous flyer campaign you will know how to move forward.
After you have done a flyer distribution campaign the next question that often comes into peoples heads is how often should I do this? Once you have canvassed and area with flyers and started to see a response and adjusted from there you should have a good idea of what is working and what is not working. After you have an ideal client you should be getting marketing material in front of them at least once a month. This will keep your brand relevant to them without being too pushy. Often times our clients tell us that they got calls after people saw the effort they were putting into getting their clients’ business. If you are relevant in people's minds they will be more inclined to call you when the problem that your business solves, arises.
